This update outlines the progress made on the community priorities set for your area by the Local Policing Inspector Craig, in collaboration with the Safer Neighbourhood Supervisors- Sgt Adams and PCSO Supervisor Wallington-Waite. Community priorities are reviewed and set on a quarterly basis, guiding the focus of the Safer Neighbourhood Team’s activity, in this update, you’ll find: A summary of the previous priorities The actions taken and outcomes achieved The new priorities for the upcoming quarterNew priorities are determined by analysing local crime trends and incorporating feedback from you, the community, through engagement events, surveys and direct contact. The previous priorities were: Shop thefts in Swadlincote town centreDrug use/distribution.Anti-social behaviour including illegal and anti-social vehicle use and e bikes.Actions Taken: In relation to Shop thefts in Swadlincote town centre we have: - Worked closely with shops around reporting offences and around crime prevention methods to help reduce theftsWe have progressed shop thefts when reported, this year, our SNT have successfully detected 131 shop thefts, identifying the offenders resulting in, dependant on offending history either out of court disposals or the offender being reported to court. One offender received a prison sentence for several offences in the area and has since received a Criminal behaviour order prohibiting him from attending certain areas to monitor his behaviour, any breaches of this order is an arrestable offence.For Drug use/distribution we have the following results: - We have conducted stop searches across the area resulting in separate offences of 10 people being found with drugs on them - these are being dealt with via different methods dependants on offending history.We have worked with SDDC housing to tackle ASB and drug use around the Holmes court area.We have patrolled and continue to patrol across known hotspot areasAnti-social behaviour (ASB) including illegal and anti-social vehicle use and e bikes we have: - Conducted school talks around ASB and consequencesOur Youth Engagement team have conducted targeted interventions with those youths identified to have been committing ASB in the area and work closely with ASB officer at SDDC attending regular multi agency meeting discussing ongoing issues and how to tackle behaviour. We have now held our 2nd successful ‘Climb with a copper’ event at Green bank leisure centre which has been well attended on both occasions- we are looking at holding further youth related events.We run our Mini police sessions each week with year 5/6 students at 2 primary schools within Swadlincote area https://www.derbyshire.police.uk/police-forces/derbyshire-constabulary/areas/derbyshire-force-content/about-us/about-derbyshire-constabulary/mini-police/We have seized numerous E Scooters during this quarters priority along with giving inputs to youths at schools around their use in Public along with sharing the information around there use on our social media pages and via Derbyshire alert. Following a review the new priorities have now been set, they are: - To deter and enforce shop lifting offences- Swadlincote Town centre Serious Acquisitive CrimeSpeeding in known hotspot areas.In relation to Serious Acquisitive Crime, we will: Continue high visibility and plain clothes patrols in hotspot areas. Share crime prevention advice through social media, community events and Derbyshire Alert, raising awareness of current issues. Promote security measures such as tool marking, steering locks and CCTV. Work with partners including local authorities, bordering police forces and national policing teams to share intelligence and prevent offending. In relation to deter and enforce shop lifting offences in Swadlincote town Centre we will: - Continue engaging with local shops and security in stores offering crime prevention advice to help deter shop theftsEncourage the stores to report theftsInvestigate reports of thefts and pro-actively and robustly deal with identified offendersContinue highly visible patrols throughout the locationTo help with Speeding in known hotspot areas we will: - Continue highly visible patrols throughout the locationEncourage community members who identity areas of concern to us to look to set up Community Speed watch schemes in the area and we will support existing schemes with their volunteering.We will conduct speed checks and liaise with our CREST over areas of concern https://www.crestderbyshire.org/One of our Neighbourhood priorities has been set following engagement with youths and our Youth Engagement team (YET) This Youth Voice priority is not based on any Police/ Partnership data, it is purely on what they have told the team they feel as youths living across South Derbyshire is the biggest area of concern to them. The results from this have highlighted- Fear of knife crime As Section Inspector for South Derbyshire, we are lucky to have a low rate of violent crime across all areas but I welcome the chance for the team to work on making Youths feel safer and hopefully eliminate this fear around knife crime, this work with incorporate work we already do throughout the year which is highlighted during the National bi-yearly Operation Sceptre. https://www.derbyshire.police.uk/police-forces/derbyshire-constabulary/areas/derbyshire-force-content/campaigns/campaigns/2023/knife-crime/ The youth engagement team will continue to their work in engagement and diversionary activities including: - School engagement and input – more focused on knife crime during Op Sceptre WeeksWork with partner agencies such as sporting communities and safe and sound and young people in the community to divert them away from ASB and criminality Engage with local youth groups and deliver key messaging and provide support and adviceComplete regular visits to nominals identified through our serious violence tasking meetings to educate and refer to support services Make use of our safer knife replacement scheme when a child is identified as a potential knife carrier. Conduct Hi-Visibility patrols in priority areas – identified hotspots or areas of concern. Attend local events and provide safety advice and education. Work alongside Child at risk of exploitation and missing persons teams identify young people of concern. |
